I am an experienced video and audio producer, project manager and general manager based in Mpartwne (Alice Springs).
Over the past 22 years I have managed two major Indigenous media organisations in Central Australia - Indigenous Community Television (ICTV) in Alice Springs, and PAW Media and Communications in Yuendumu (formerly Warlpiri Media Association). I have produced many hours of television, audio and video content within my positions as General Manager of these organisations
Having lived and worked on both the Warlpiri and Arrernte lands and through my engagement with Indigenous groups across Australia in my work, I understand the critical importance of working of in a culturally sensitive way - and work to achieve high cultural standards including the acknowledgement of cultural property rights.
The power of personal stories and capacity of storytelling to invoke change is fundamental to my work . Stories can be communicated using many different media forms, the most effective is the one that is most accessible to the story teller and the audience.
Over the past four years, I have been able to combine my media skills with my lifelong interest in gastronomy through projects that fold together food with personal stories.
I am currently working as a freelance video producer/director on ethical media campaigns and continuing to develop my own projects including the two television series - 'Great Cooks of the Desert' and 'Italian Cooks of the Tropics'.
I continue to produce a fortnightly radio show - Kitchen Radio - for 8CCC Community Radio in Alice Springs,
I am of Italian descent on my paternal side,. My father's mother - Pierina Accornero immigrated from Piedmont in Northern Italy, and my Italian granfather - Luigino Cattoni - came from Brescia, also in Northern Italy. The both arrived in Ingham to work on the canefields in the early 1920's.
My mother's family were early settlers and miners from Scotland and England and settled in the Mackay area, aslo in north Queensland.
I am the middle child of seven siblings and grew up in Ingham, a small sugar-cane growing town north of Townsville with a large population of Italian migrants and decendents.
I moved to Central Australia 23 years ago, and it is now home to me.
